No Wi-fi and We Survived–no we THRIVED

Favorite parts of the spontaneous road trip to Hilton Head…

Look-everyone's happy without electronics

Look-everyone’s happy without electronics

  • The true spontaneity-we decided to go about 3p on Friday and were on the road by 6:30.
  • Having 2 big kids old enough to pack for themselves.  WAHOO
  • The lack of wi-fi. I had my son back!!! I forgot how funny he is.
  • Seeing Sadie’s joy at the sand, the surf and “de castle-de MIT-tee mouse castle”.  Aka a sand castle.
  • The beaming smile when Kinsley found out she made all-stars.  Seeing your daughter achieve something from her bucket list in a place as wonderful as the beach…well it just doesn’t get much better.
  • Bike riding for miles.
  • Marathon Animal Planet shows that we all watched together.  Mermaids do exist…we believe after watching Mermaids:  Body Found
  • The tide pool and all the treasures we found there:  a set of plyers, a gazillion hermit crabs, a tossing net and 2 flip flops and of course the polly pocket doll.
  • Shiny bikinis. (dont worry-not on me)
  • Pictures. Glorious pylestyle pictures!
  • Watching Phil get teary eyed after seeing one of his pics of Kinsley and noticing what a pretty young lady she has become.
  • My 3 babies playing in the sand. Together.  With no fighting.
  • A book. A real book, with pages, in my hands while my toes snuggled in the sand. Read the whole thing and savored every second.
  • Watching Colton tuck Kinsley in with his blanket after she crashed on the couch and then using the same blanket to cover Sadie gently, without being asked, on the way home.
  • Suggesting we stop at Wal-Greens and the comic routine that followed.
  • Sandy, salty kisses.
  • Little moments of harmony when there was no where else to be and no schedule for anyone to do anything.
  • Squeals at the pool as Sadie jumped in again and again and again.
  • Salty air.
  • Snuggling with our 3 year old at night and being okay with it since there was no where else for her to sleep.
  • Hearing Phil say in a stage whisper, “Take a look kids–this is what Mommy looks like when she is in her Happy Place.”
  • Being tipsy.
  • Seashells
  • The relief I felt when Kinsley wasn’t lost.
  • Did I mention a lack of wi-fi…it’s worth mentioning again.  Heavan.
  • A TALK–yes A TALK–with my son while sitting in a beach chair.  Had I not been looking at the ocean I might not have been able to remain as calm as I did.
  • Flip-flops
  • Sunburn and tan lines
  • 3 year -old-conversations that included a sleepy, stuffy Sadie telling her Daddy she had ocean stuck in her nose.
  • Relaxing.  Truly relaxing.

Cheesing it up for the camera

A grand get away.  Family time.  Bonding and unwinding.  With all that is on our plate this summer this was a much needed get-away. Can’t wait to do it again.
